DiabeticIndexCarbs per serving

About

DiabeticIndex shows how much carbohydrate, fiber and sugar is in a real serving of a food, so you can count carbs with the amount you actually eat.

Why we built this

Food information for diabetes is often hard to find, hard to read, or written to sell something. We want anyone living with diabetes, or at risk of it, to find clear numbers quickly, understand them at a glance, and use them in everyday meals.

A diagnosis is not the end of enjoying food. Our hope is that good information, alongside your care team’s advice, helps you live well with diabetes — a long, healthy and happy life, eating food you like.

Where the numbers come from

Every figure comes from USDA FoodData Central: SR Legacy (2018), Foundation Foods (December 2025) and FNDDS (October 2024). Each food page names its dataset and links to the USDA record. We scale USDA’s per-100 g values to the serving you choose. We never estimate a missing value — where USDA publishes none, the page says “No data”.

Carb choices

One carb choice is 15 g of carbohydrate, the unit used in carbohydrate counting taught by diabetes educators (ADA Standards of Care). We count it on total carbohydrate. Your educator may teach a different method.

What is not here yet

Glycemic index and added sugars. USDA’s whole-food datasets do not publish them, and we will not show a number we cannot source.

Kidney disease

Diabetes is a leading cause of chronic kidney disease. Our sister site, KidneyFoods, shows potassium, phosphorus and sodium per serving against the kidney guideline.

Not medical advice

This site gives information. Your carbohydrate target, your medicines and how you count carbs are set with your own doctor, diabetes educator or dietitian.
