This page says, in plain words, what DiabeticIndex keeps about you, why, and how to remove it.
If you do not sign in
You can search foods, read articles and use Track without an account. Track then keeps your log in your own browser, on your own device. It is not sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
When you click a link that leaves this site, we count the click: which link and on which of our pages. We do not record who clicked, your address or your browser.
If you create an account
We keep:
- your email address, and the name Google gives us if you sign in with Google;
- your password, stored only as a one-way scrambled form (a hash) that cannot be turned back into the password;
- if you sign in with Google, the id Google uses for your account. We ask Google only for your email, name and that id;
- the foods and amounts you add to Track, the days you add them, and the daily carbohydrate target if you enter one.
We do not ask for, and do not keep, your diagnosis, medicines, blood glucose or any other health record. The nutrient figures in your log come from USDA FoodData Central, not from you.
Why
Only so that your Track log is there when you sign in on any device. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to target you. Nobody else can see your log.
Cookies
Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in on that device. A second small cookie tells the site your time zone, so "today" in Track is your today.
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and foods are used, so we know what to improve.
It sets its own cookies (named _ga) and Google receives your browser's address and the pages you open.
We send it which foods are added to Track and the amount, never your name, email or your log as a whole.
There are no advertising cookies.
Readers in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked first: Google Analytics sets no cookie until you press Accept, and "Cookie settings" at the foot of every page changes your choice. Anywhere, browser add-ons such as Google's own opt-out add-on block it.
Download or delete
On your account page you can download everything you have logged, and delete your account. Deleting removes your account and all your Track entries at once. It cannot be undone.
Where it is kept
On our web host's servers. Passwords are hashed, connections use HTTPS, and only the site's operator can reach the database.
